E-filing is a way to send in your tax return information to the IRS and the state tax authorities over the internet. It is coming in place of the long established file-by-US-mail method, used for decades. In the last few years the electronic processing has proved to be accurate, offering quicker processing and faster refunds, as well as being more environmentally friendly with its paperless nature. It is not a surprise that it has picked up in popularity and in 2010 about 75% of all returns processed in the US were e-filed. We are ahead of the national average as 90% of our clients chose to use the feature in 2010. Of course e-filing is not mandatory and it is up to you to decide whether to paper file or e-file.
